How To Shop Smart During The Great Singapore Sale

Ahh…the most anticipated shopping season of the year is back. Before you whip out your credit card (and claws too, possibly), here are some tips to shop smart during the Great Singapore Sale.

1. Make a wish list

When it comes to sale season, it always pays to be prepared. Make a mental wish list of items that you’re eyeing, so you can zero in on them and zip straight to the cashier come D-Day.

Several retailers like Topshop, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins and Mango have an online presence as well, so start building that virtual wish list before sale season kicks off. Certain brands like ZARA don’t have an online store (for local orders, at least), but the website usually features a catalogue of items and prices so you can do some planning beforehand.

2. Research, research, research

Yes, it’s pretty nerdy and yes, it may even be borderline obsessive…but let’s see who gets the last laugh when you score extra freebies and discounts on your purchases.

Before heading out on your shopping spree, search for any promotions or deals that your credit card has with retailers. Several malls also have Great Singapore Sale promotions to further entice shoppers, such as free parking or voucher redemption with a minimum amount spent.

3. Shop alone

As much as you may love your BFFs (or boyfriend/husband), going solo is the way to go if you want to do some serious shopping. Shopping alone means you can take however long or short you need to at a store, without having to wait for the rest of the pack (or feel guilty about making someone wait for you). It’s all about shopping efficiently, my friends.

4. Dress smart

And speaking of shopping efficiently…serious shoppers will know that dressing smart (and comfy) is essential for an afternoon of marathon sale shopping. We know you want to look OOTD-worthy, but trust us, you’ll regret it when you need to try on something.

Go for an easy-breezy weekend dress, so you can slip on clothes quickly. And hey, if the fitting room lines are too long, you can always try on clothes in a discreet corner. Efficiency trumps dignity when it comes to sale shopping ya know?

5. Think twice

We know, we know – there’s nothing more tempting than a discount (Sephora 20% off sale anyone?), but before you bite the bullet, think twice. Instead of buying an item on impulse (and regretting it later), think about whether you’ll use it more than once. If it’s not something you really want, skip it and save the money for something better.

Plus, retailers usually do further markdowns during the later period of the Great Singapore Sale, so who knows, you just might score a better deal on it later on. You know what they say, good things come to those who wait.

6. Choose your parking wisely

Finding parking in Orchard during peak hours can be quite a chore, and the Great Singapore Sale certainly doesn’t make it any easier. Do yourself a favour and check out the Real Time Parking Lot Availability at various car parks in Orchard, so you can plan your route better.

Several shopping malls, such as ION Orchard and Paragon, also offer parking rebates when you shop at stores in the mall.

  1. One thing is definitely missing in this list – online shopping 🙂 Personally, I prefer shopping online cuz the craze during GSS is insane! Of course, when it comes to online shopping, you can’t forget about coupon codes websites 🙂 I don’t know what I would do without them. They are my go-to sites every time I do online shopping. I can’t even count how many times I saved some money with promo codes to various stores. And speaking of GSS, I remember picodi https://www.picodi.com/sg/ having special section for Great Singapore Sale where they collected all deals from online shops. Very handy!

  2. Awesome article! I also live and breath coupon codes when i do online shopping. Apart from picodi i also use https://kiasupromos.com to search for my codes
