Inexpensive, Last-Minute Date Ideas For Valentine’s Day

Forgot to plan something special for your Valentine? We’ve got you covered. Here are some perfectly acceptable activities that don’t require much planning (or money). You’re welcome.

1. Evening boat ride on a River Taxi

Robertson Quay | Tel: 6336 6111, Operating Hours: 7am – 8pm (Mon to Fri), 9.30am – 9pm (Sat, Sun and Public Holidays), Last boat leaves at 9pm.

Nothing says romantic like a breezy evening boat ride along the Singapore River. The best part? It’ll only cost you $4 per person. Board the River Taxi from Robertson Quay and it will take you through Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Fullerton to Marina Bay Sands (Promenade). You can also hop off at either of the stops, but let the boat driver know in advance.

No advance booking is required, as there is usually a boat every 15 minutes or so. Payment is by EZ-Link card only.

2. Day Trip to the Southern Islands

Marina South Pier, 31 Marina Coastal Drive, Singapore 018988 | Tel: 6534 9339, Operating Hours: Refer to ferry schedule here.

This year, skip the typical dinner-then-movie date and switch things up with a getaway trip to the Southern Islands. Pack a basket of food and spend the afternoon exploring the tranquil beaches on St. John’s Island or Kusu Island – Singapore’s lesser-known islands. And for only $18 per person (2-way trip), it’s a pretty affordable date.

No prior booking is required, but you can purchase tickets at the Marina South Pier. The ferry leaves from Marina South Pier and makes a stop at St. John’s Island, before heading to Kusu Island.

3. Visit A Farmer’s Market

Loewen Gardens, 75 Loewen Road, Singapore 248844 | Tel: 6474 0441 | Opening Hours: 9am – 2pm

If organic food is your thing (#eatclean), bring your Valentine to the Farmer’s Market at The Pantry @ Loewen Gardens. The market is usually held on the first and third Saturday of each month, and is usually held from 9am to 2pm. Relish the spread of fresh produce and organic food, or drop in for a cooking class and wine talk at The Pantry Cooking School. Finish off your afternoon with a lazy lunch at Dempsey Hill, which is a short 5-minute walk away.
