This nifty app allows you to easily adjust image contast, colour correction, saturation and sharpness. It can even give your photos a vintage or grunge look with one of its many photo filters. If you’re unsure of your editing skills, you can even let Snapseed’s auto-correction take over.

 3. Afterglow
Available on App Store, US$0.99

If you’re unsatisfied Instagram’s limited filters, give Afterglow a try. With over 30 filters and 23 different textures for you to choose from, you can also control the photograph’s colour saturation and hue. The only downside to this app is that it is only available on Apple’s App Store, so Android users can’t use it.

Turn your photos into something more unique with the extensive range of filters, effects, corrections and borders available on PicsArt. For a personalized touch, you can even draw directly onto your photos. And as if that isn’t enough, the app also lets you make collages with your images, which can be imported directly from social media accounts or Dropbox. No wonder the app has already been downloaded by over 34 million photography enthusiasts.

Here’s an app that shows you how a picture can speak a thousand words – literally. With a push of a button (or two), you can turn your favourite photo into a mosaic made of words. Okay okay, so maybe this might not be your conventional photo editor, but Wordfoto is definitely a cool app to have on your phone. Choose from a number of text/photo styles, and even add your own text for the full visual effect.

6. Squaready
Available on the App Store, Free

If one of your pet peeves is trying to scale your image before uploading it onto Instagram, then this is the app for you. Squaready allows you to crop and scale your photos into perfect squares, so that you can upload it onto Instagram without having to crop out any bits. Trust us, this app will definitely come in handy if you’re an avid Instagram user. This app is only available for Apple users, but Android users can try alternatives like Photo Squarer.
