Some days, we need a break from real life. Here are some of the best places to have Tai Tai-worthy high tea in Singapore, without breaking the bank.
1. Capella Singapore
Address: The Knolls Restaurant, 1 The Knolls, Sentosa Island
To book: Call 6591 5000 or click here for more information.
Price: $39.90++ per person for the tea set (non-replenishable)
Date/Time: 3pm to 5pm (Mondays to Fridays) at The Knolls, 3pm to 5pm (Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) at Cassia
Nothing says Tai Tai better than an afternoon getaway at a swanky hotel in Sentosa. Sip premium tea and munch on tea cakes as you enjoy the view of Capella Hotel’s (really nice) grounds. Although the tea set is won’t be replenished, it does come with a fair bit of canapes and pastries. If you’re looking to escape the crowds in town, this just might be the perfect afternoon tea spot for you.

2. Alkaff Mansion

Price: $26 ++ for the weekday high tea set (non-replenishable), $40++ for the high tea buffet on Saturdays
Date/Time: 11.30am to 3.30pm (Monday to Saturday)
If you’re not too keen on going all the way to Sentosa, check out Alkaff Mansion at Telok Blangah Hill for a quiet afternoon tea. The high tea set includes a Tai Tai-esque tiered-stand of canapes and pastries, as well as a pot of Gryphon Tea. A great place for a cosy catch-up with your best girlfriends.

3. Fairmont Singapore
Address: Anti:dote Lounge, 80 Bras Basah Road
To book: Call 6431 5315 or email them to make a reservation.
Price: $38.00 ++ per person for the afternoon tea set (non-replenishable), Children’s tea set is $15++
Date/Time: From 3pm to 5pm daily.
Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hotel’s Anti:dote Lounge is pretty reasonably-priced for a hotel located in the Central Business District. They serve the standard menu of canapes and pastries, but we love how they’re presented in a gorgeous leather-clad chest. And hey, you can be all Tai Tai-like and say, “Let’s have tea at the Fairmont, shall we?”

4. Fullerton Bay Hotel

The Singapore Heritage Afternoon Session at The Clifford Pier restaurant is a local take on traditional afternoon tea. Expect a menu of local favourites curated by acclaimed cookbook author Shermay Lee – we love how she does dishes like Roti With Kaya and Kong Ba Bao (Braised Pork Sliders) in a classy way, without compromising on tradition.

5. Goodwood Park Hotel

To book: Call 6730 1743 or email them to make a reservation
Price: $45 ++ per adult and $22.50 ++ per child for the high tea buffet. Includes two servings of coffee and tea per person.
Date/Time: From 2pm to 5.30pm (Monday to Thursday), two seatings from 12pm to 2.30pm and 3pm to 5.30pm (Friday to Sunday and Public Holidays).
While afternoon tea at Goodwood Park Hotel is a bit pricer than some of the other places on this list, they do have a wide selection of dishes. Oh, and it’s buffet-style too – a good option for those of us with um, heartier appetites (heh heh). The buffet spread includes hot savoury dishes (like braised Kurobuta pork), sweet pastries and…a really cool chocolate fountain (always the best part of any dessert buffet).
