If there’s one thing we can appreciate about the sweltering heat of Singapore’s tropical climate, it’s that it makes ice cream taste even better. Here’s a roundup on the best places to get your ice cream fix.
Best Vanilla Ice Cream: Ben and Jerry’s
VivoCity #02-135/136, The Cathay #02-12, and other locations. For a full list, visit their website.
I know what you might be thinking – how special can vanilla ice cream be? Ben and Jerry’s Vanilla is an aromatic punch of flavour, and the dense creamy taste of vanilla will satisfy any sweet tooth. Perfect with a glass of root beer on a hot day.

Best Chocolate Ice Cream: Awfully Chocolate
131 East Coast Road, Ion Orchard #B4-50, and other locations. For a full list, visit their website.
Synonymous with birthday and celebrations (how many times have you had birthday cake from here?), you know you can always trust the aptly named Awfully Chocolate to do it right when it comes to chocolate. While the cakes have never disappointed us, the Hei ice cream is something to write home about. The dark chocolate ice cream is a rich, creamy mixture that comes in a cute container styled after classic Chinese takeaway boxes. If you’re dining in, pair your Hei ice cream with a slice of Super Stacked Chocolate Cake (a more chocolate-y version of the original All Chocolate cake). Don’t forget to ask them to warm up the cake for you – you’ll thank us for this.

Best Gelato: Gelateria Italia
Plaza Singapura #B2-55, Bugis+ #01-07, ION Orchard #B4-27 and other locations. For a full list, visit their website.
If you’re ever craving for little piece of Italy, Gelateria Italia is the place to get it. Although we don’t really know if the place has Italian roots at all. But! The gelato is amazing, and that’s what counts. The display of gelato is alluring, with rows of colourful tubs just waiting to be sampled (yes, they give free samples). Our favourites are the nutty flavours like Hazelnut and Nutella, although the fruity flavours are good as well. The price is rather steep, at $5, for the piccolo sized one (which is the smallest), but that size is enough to satisfy your craving.
Best Japanese Ice Cream: Azabu Sabo
Central #01-46, Marina Square #02-170/171, Food Court @ Takashimaya Department Store
There are few things more delightful than Azabu Sabo’s Hokkaido Ice Cream, but not a lot. The milky ice cream is smooth and creamy, and we love how it’s not cloyingly sweet. In fact, we love this place so much that we can’t decide which is our favourite flavour. The Cookies and Cream is a milky concoction of cookie bits and milk ice cream, while the Sea Salt Caramel is a perfect mix of salty and sweet (don’t be fooled by its plain, vanilla-like appearance). Definitely a good place to get your dessert fix.

Best Flavours: The Daily Scoop
Clementi Arcade #01-04, Chip Bee Gardens #01-78
Whether it’s a spin on familiar classics like vanilla (try the Honey Vanilla…you won’t regret it), or an interesting take on local flavours like Chendol and Lychee Martini, The Daily Scoop will impress your palate with their range of delectable flavours. Our favourite is the Salted Mr Brown, which is the perfect combination of sea salt, brown sugar and bite-sized brownies. Definitely worth the calories.
