Top 5 Fashion Trends To Leave Behind In 2017

If we’re being completely honest here, 2o17 was truly a year of sartorial setbacks – let’s just say that there were one too many ugly fashion trends that reigned supreme. Here are the top trends we hope to leave behind in 2017.

1. Chunky White Sneakers

Hey, don’t get us wrong here – we love a classic white sneaker, but when they get a ’90s style reboot with rugged S-shape treaded soles? No, just no. Thanks to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, the once easy-to-wear trend has gone chunky, clunky and way too expensive. Can anyone say overpriced Bata school shoes?

Let’s put it this way – if a clean white sneaker is the Prince Charming of shoe trends, then the Chunky White Sneaker is the Frog Prince (that still hasn’t been kissed).

2. Athleisure

At the risk of offending Lululemon lovers out there, we’re going to come right out and say it – Athleisure is a trend that needs to die. As much as the crop top, leggings and sneakers combo may look effortlessly chic on the likes of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid (celebrities, they’re just like us!), the trend does not translate well to normal plebeians like us. Come on, people – do you really have to strut around town in your Athleisure get up, especially when you know you aren’t going to hit the gym at all?

3. Oversized T-Shirt Dresses

Did you forget to wear pants? Or have you lost your mind? If the answer is no, then throw out that horrid Oversized T-Shirt Dress stat. We know, we know – Rihanna and Rita Ora are wearing the trend, but do you really want to wear something so unflattering? Unless you’ve got a celebrity stylist or legs that go on forever, the Oversized T-Shirt Dress will only look like well, an oversized t-shirt trying to pass off as a dress. What a revelation huh? Skip the oversized look and stick to a classic tee, period.

4. High Fashion Hoodies

OK, let’s just start out by asking the most obvious question here – why would anyone in their right mind drop $1000 on a hoodie? Oh right, because it’s a fashion hoodie and that gives retailers the right to charge an exorbitant amount for it (Supreme and Yeezy, we’re looking at you). From Kpop idols to Kylie Jenner, high fashion hoodies have sadly taken over like the plague. When did it become OK to spend so much money on something so bland and ugly anyway?

5. Tiny Sunglasses

We saved the most ridiculous trend for last – tiny sunglasses. Now seriously, did someone really sit down and think about shrinking a pair of sunglasses so they would only fit your three-year-old niece? What a fashion genius! Someone give the guy a CFDA Award already.

What’s the point of wearing sunglasses, if they hardly even cover your eyes?! Also, tiny sunglasses only look good on one type of face – millennial model. Now, can 2018 bring us more flattering sunglasses trends please?
