Let’s Talk Fashion
How would you describe your style?
I would say it’s pretty unpredictable because I usually dress according to my mood. I love statement pieces and my style is generally more bold and daring. I hardly ever do the demure, ladylike look.
What or who inspires your sense of style?
I like Abbey Lee Kershaw‘s style because it’s refreshingly rebellious. I also get inspiration from fashion bloggers (I spend almost 2 hours daily stalking them!), users on LOOKBOOK.nu and even people that I see on the street.
Favourite trend(s) of the moment?
I am currently so obsessed with neon colours that I have to literally stop myself from buying too many pieces in highlighter shades. I have a yellow highlighter dress, a neon pink crop top, a pair of yellow wedges and several multicolor bracelets…eek!
Any designers you love?
Balmain! I’m a sucker for embellishments, studs, shoulder pads and leather. I’m also crazy about the Australian label Sass & Bide.
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why?
Do I have to pick just one? Because there are way too many closets I want to raid! Rachel Zoe for all her gorgeous fur coats and vintage dresses, Kate Moss for her sleek and edgy wardrobe staples and Sienna Miller for her boho-chic festival pieces. It’s quite difficult to find one-of-a-kind vintage pieces in Singapore, so I’d have my fill of vintage clothes if I ever got to raid the closets of those celebs.
Trends you can’t stand?
Harem pants. Unless you are a 1.8m-tall supermodel, don’t attempt this one. It’ll just make you look stubby and sloppy.
Worst fashion crime you’ve ever committed?
Wearing platform sneakers with knee-length shorts and a tank top. For some reason I thought I looked really cool back then – please don’t ask me why.
Any fashion advice for others who want to improve their style?
Trends are fun to follow, but it’s more important to dress according to your body shape and play up the parts you love. I also believe in investing in good shoes. They always pull the look together!
Favourite Features
1. Bumble-bee wedges
It’s impossible not to notice Rachel’s killer shoes, which make her legs look a mile long. We love how the black and yellow combo complements the rest of her outfit to, well, a T.
2. Printed pants
It takes some guts (and pizazz) to wear printed pants, but Rachel’s got the look down pat. The black stripe that runs along the side of the pants breaks up the print nicely.
3. Accessories
Rachel dons a silver necklace and bangles to pull the look together, but we love how her hot-pink nails add a fun pop of colour to the whole look.
