How To Rock The Denim Trend
Nothing says casual chic better than denim done right. Fashion blogger Jessica Tham (@tippytapp) shows us how to rock the trend without looking like a mismatched cowgirl.
1. Denim Shirt
Ahh…the classic denim shirt – you just can’t go wrong with this versatile closet staple. If you’re going casual, wear your denim shirt with a pair of jeans (white, if you dare) for a relaxed but pulled together weekend look. Keep the look light and breezy by rolling up the sleeves and leaving the top few buttons undone.
Need a smarter outfit for Casual Friday? Tuck your denim shirt into a printed pencil skirt for a stylish but laid-back feel. Denim blue is a surprisingly neutral colour, so it goes well with bright prints and colours.
2. Denim Dress
If you want a more feminine take on the trend, a denim dress is definitely the way to go. Denim can be a bit stiff as a material, so pick a dress in a softer fabric that looks like denim. This way, you’ll still keep a feminine silhouette.
And hey, as an added bonus, the lighter material will keep you cool and comfortable in our tropical climate.
To complete the look, wear some cute summer espadrilles (or sandals) and grab your favourite bag. Just be careful about colour transfer on your bag – certain types of denim transfer pigment easily, so avoid using lighter colour bags.
3. Denim on Denim
I know, I know – double denim sounds like a fashion disaster waiting to happen, but hear me out for a bit. When done right, denim on denim can actually be an effortlessly chic look for casual days.
To pull off the look, pick pieces in different shades of denim blue. A sleeveless top in faded denim will keep the look from being too over-the-top, while a pair of distressed denim shorts will add dimension and texture to the outfit.
Now, all you need is an Instaworthy wall for that OOTD picture you know you’re going to take.
