Festive Outfit Ideas
The festive season is in full swing, which means…plenty of excuses to dress up, no? Fashion blogger Jessica Tham (@tippytapp) shows us how to work three popular trends into your holiday wardrobe this year.
1. Lace is ace.
Thanks to London-based label Self-portrait, lace dresses have been all the rage this year. To look #onpoint this Christmas, pick a pretty frock with crochet or cut out details. If you want to draw more attention to your makeup, a dress with a high-neck will work perfectly – just remember to contour and highlight, because a higher neckline may create the illusion of a bigger face if you’re not careful.
There are plenty of lace dresses available from both high-street and high-end retailers, so you won’t be hard-pressed to find one within your budget. If you want to stay safe though, an A-Line cut will be flattering on most body types – just pick a darker hue to keep the dress from looking too casual. Pair with your favourite lipstick and voilà, you’re all set.
2. Pleats, please.
Whether you’re a dress, pants or shorts kind of girl, pleats are an easy way to look effortlessly on trend. Depending on the look you are going for, pleats can work in both light and dark colours. Lighter colours show off the details better and give a summery vibe, while darker colours are foolproof for dressier occasions.
If you want the best of both worlds though, go for a pleated maxi dress with colour-blocking details. The lighter hue will keep the look light and airy, while the black portion at the bottom of the dress will create a slimming effect (and also prevent the overall look from being too uh, bridesmaid-esque #justsayin).
Oh, and the best thing about maxi dresses? They work for both casual or formal occasions and are exceedingly comfy. Add accessories and a pair of heels for a dressier look, or pair with your favourite sandals and dainty jewellery for a more relaxed outfit.
3. Metallic Magic
Ladies, it’s time to break out all those jewel hues in your closet, because what’s a festive outfit without some metallic accents eh? If you want to go all out, a pleated midi skirt in a rich metallic hue will work perfectly for a dressier occasion. Not only is it fabulously festive, but the light material is also comfortable and easy to wear. As an added bonus, you can also twirl around as you please, because…well, because why not?
To avoid looking dowdy, pair the midi or maxi skirt with a fitted crop top. Go for one with an off-shoulder cut to show off a bit of your neckline, since the longer hemline will keep things classy. A basic colour like black or white will balance out the metallic hues too.
Complete the look with a cute clutch and classic heels, and hey, you’ve got yourself a foolproof Christmas party outfit.
