As the year comes to a close, we rounded up a list of beauty trends that took over our Instagram feeds in 2017.
1. Highlighter-Inspired Lip Gloss
2016 may have been the year for matte liquid lipsticks, but 2017 was all about the glow. Highlighting, strobing, luminizing – this year had us crazy in love with all things shiny. High-shine cheekbones aside though, we have to say that highlighter-inspired lip gloss was what had us double-tapping on those Instagram photos. I mean, holographic lipgloss? Shut up and take my money already.
To get the look: Try Huda Beauty’s Lip Strobe for a duochrome or holographic finish that will make your pout pop.

2. Sunset Eyeshadow
Ombré hair may be so 2012, but the gradient trend has only gotten better this year – with Sunset Eyeshadow being one of the many ombré eye makeup looks that has taken over our beauty feeds. As its name may suggest, Sunset Eyeshadow mimics the colours of a sunset – think earthy tones blended with burnt orange and warm yellow hues. While this may not be your standard everyday look, you can be sure that it’s Instaworthy af.
To get the look: Try Fenty Beauty’s Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette, Too Faced’s Semisweet Chocolate Bar or ZOEVA’s Matte Eyeshadow Palette for both basic and bold hues.

3. Glass Skin
Korean beauty can sometimes be rather exclusive to those with fair skin and delicate Asian features, but Glass Skin is one trend that anyone can subscribe to. Instead of piling on the highlighter though, achieving Glass Skin is all about having plump and moisturised skin with a dewy shine to it. The secret? Religious sheet-masking, of course.
To get the look: Try the COSRX One Step Moisture Pad as a toner, then end off your skincare routine with the COSRX One Step Moisture Up Sheet Mask.

4. Reverse French Manicure
Sorry ladies, but French manicures are so #basic. The next time you want a truly Instaworthy manicure, try a Reverse French Manicure instead. The trend was made popular by Korean nail salon Unistella, but we foresee it sticking around for a long time. The sleek and minimalist look is not difficult to achieve (plus the design possibilities are endless), so this is one trend you can nail down (pun intended) pretty easily.

5. Monochrome Makeup
Matching your lids and lips has never been more Instaworthy than it was this year, with monochrome makeup looks taking over the FOTD (that’s face of the day to the uninitiated) hashtag by storm. Whether you want to go for a subtle or bold vibe, the look can be easily achieved with the right eyeshadow and lipstick shades. Don’t want to splurge on the look? Go for lip and cheek sticks such as Rosé All Day’s Lip + Cheek Duos, which do double duty on the lids and lips.
To get the look: Try the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Clay Palette and Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks for a range of monochrome colour options.
