You don’t have to be Michelle Phan to have a few beauty tricks up your sleeve. Here are some genius makeup tricks that every girl should add to their beauty arsenal.
1. Prevent lipstick stains on your teeth by putting your index finger in your mouth.
We swear we’re not trying to prank you – this really works. There’s nothing more embarrassing than having your smile ruined by – gasp – a bright red stain on your teeth. To prevent pesky lipstick stains, try this trick – form your lips into an O shape, place your index finger inside your mouth and slowly pull it out. No worries about lipstick stains now!
2. Get thicker lashes with baby powder.
The next time you want fuller lashes (that don’t smudge!), ditch your falsies and reach for some good old baby powder instead. First, curl your lashes and apply one or two coats of mascara. To prevent smudges, gently roll the mascara wand over tissue before application to remove clumps or excess product. Next, use a cotton bud or eye shadow brush to dab some baby powder onto your lashes. Finally, apply another coat of mascara and you’ll have thicker, fuller lashes in no time.
3. Set your lipstick with powder.
Having to reapply your lipstick every few hours (or even after your morning coffee) is a real pain. To make you lipstick well, stick, place a tissue over your lips after you first apply your colour of the day. Use a small, flat brush to dust translucent powder over your lips to set the colour, and your lipstick will last much longer.
4. Use Vaseline to make your perfume last longer.
The next time you spritz on some perfume, apply a thin coat of Vaseline to your pulse points first. The fragrance will cling onto the petroleum jelly, instead of sinking into your pores, so your perfume scent will last longer. When applying perfume, the best pulse points to spray on are your inner wrists, inner elbows, behind your ears and your cleavage (hey, whatever works right). Also, don’t rub your inner wrists together after applying perfume there, as the friction will cause the scent to rub off faster.
5. Use a spoon to get the perfect winged eyeliner.
Unless you have super steady hands, we all know the frustration of achieving the perfect flick for our winged eyeliner look. Well, the humble spoon is here to make your makeup routine a little easier. Use the thinner end of the spoon to create a flick, then use the curved portion to draw a curved line just above the flick. Fill in the gap between both lines and ta-daah, perfect winged eyes.
6. Make contouring as easy as 1, 2, 3.
If you think you don’t have the expertise to pull off Kim Kardashian’s contoured face, think again. To get the perfect contour line, trace the number 3 along the perimeter of your face with your bronzer. The key spots to hit are the hairline, hollow of your cheek and jaw line. Oh, and use a light hand when blending – you want to look like a bronzed goddess, not dirty.
